Online lessons have a flexibility about them! Book a lesson, more or less whenever you want and at a location to suit you…. Obviously they are not for everyone and I am not suggesting that they are a substitute for face to face lessons entirely – though, in actual fact they are face to face! One to one, or one to many!
Much of my teaching over the years has been hands-on teaching and ……..this is the key to my personal approach. I have taken the time to learn some basic skills to a very high level (learning to do the basics really well is the key to excellence in many areas) and this has given me the background to see more clearly what’s going on in musicians’ singing and playing and, with wisdom acquired in this way, decide what is best said and what is (more often than you might think) better left unsaid.
I’m always interested in helping others get to grips with some of the essential – and simply transformative elements of the Alexander approach to learning – undoing habits, the trains of thought that support them and demystifying surprisingly popular misconceptions about how we learn best: how to support learning with constructive thought that does not create, as it often does – further problems or interferences.
I’m a very personable, always encouraging teacher – after all, music makes life worth living- and life is challenging enough at times but I like to talk and get a good view of pupils’ issues, and that takes time and patience.
I think of myself as a ‘habit detective’, not just the ones that are easy to spot, but more subtle and powerful ones that are often the same ones that undermine us…..and not just in music.
Of course, online lessons can be supported themselves with lessons at one of my teaching venues – currently, mainly from my home in Windsor. You are most welcome to book a lesson online, or offline!
Please get in touch if you’d like to take advantage of an initial offer of 3 online lessons at a very reduced rate: £100
My single lesson fee is £40, that’s about 40 mins, but never less than this. Of course I can arrange longer lessons as well and listen to music that you are preparing and offer suggestions and advice on performance and preparation. It’s up to you.
